SUMMARY:June 21st Sunset Sit at Locarno Beach for Summer Solstice
DESCRIPTION:A free guided nature sit at sunset on the summer solstice to witness the last light of the longest day. Tea and a poem to close. \n\n\n\nSolstice comes from the Latin words sol and sistere\, meaning “sun” and “to stand still.” \nThe summer solstice is the moment the sun reaches its highest point in its arc across the northern sky. For a few days\, the light hangs. Then it begins its long return south. \nWe’re meeting twice: at sunrise to receive the first light\, and again at sunset to stay until the last. A Certified Nature and Therapy Guide will open each gathering with a brief grounding\, then we settle into stillness. We close with tea and a poem. \nCome as you are. This year the solstice falls on Father’s Day. Bring your dad if you like. \nWe gather at Locarno Beach\, one of only three designated quiet beaches in Vancouver. \nSunset | June 21 | 8:30 pm – 10:00 pm | Sunset at 9:21 pm\nMeeting place: Locarno Beach Concession \nHost: Dr. Tara Tiger Brown\, Certified Forest Therapy Guide and PhD researcher in Nature and Human Health \nFree. No experience needed. Children welcome if they can sit quietly. No dogs. Bring something to sit on if you wish. Bring a layer for the evening cool. \nFAQs\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n1. What is the June / Summer Solstice? \nThe June solstice is the moment the Sun is directly above the Tropic of Cancer in the Northern Hemisphere. This is the northernmost latitude it reaches during the year. After the solstice\, it begins moving south again. \n2. Why Is It Called a Solstice? \nThe term comes from the Latin words sol and sistere\, meaning “Sun” and “to stand still.” The spot on the Earth’s surface directly beneath the Sun slowly moves along a north-south axis during the year. When it reaches its northernmost point in June\, it stops to start its journey back south. \n3. How much daylight do we get on June 21st? \nOn June 21st\, Vancouver will experience approximately 16 hours and 19 minutes of daylight. This is 8 hours\, 4 minutes longer than the December solstice. \n4. Can I join both the sunrise and the sunset sits? \nYes\, please do! Sunrise event | Sunset event \n5. Why Locarno Beach? \nLocarno is one of only three officially designated quiet beaches in Vancouver: no amplified music and is intended for people seeking calmer soundscapes. Also\, it faces North with a wonderful view of the east and west to capture both the sunrise and sunset. \n6. Is there parking at Locarno Beach? \nYes\, there are two parking lots at either end of Locarno Beach\, on Trimble and Sassamat street on NW Marine Dr. Both parking lots are free to park at\, and there is additional parking along NW Marine Dr. \n7. Are there public washrooms at Locarno Beach? \nYes\, there are public washrooms and change rooms located at the concession building at the center of the beach\, as well as outdoor showers and water fountains.

SUMMARY:April 11th Cherry Blossoms at Vancouver Museum
DESCRIPTION:Hanami — the Japanese tradition of gathering under cherry blossoms to mark the fleeting beauty of spring — captures something we’ve always known at Sit Spot Club: that pausing in nature\, even briefly\, changes us. When cherry petals fall\, they do so without effort. They don’t cling. They simply let go. \nVancouver’s cherry trees are among the most spectacular on the continent\, and this April we return to Vanier Park — in front of The Crab\, one of our favourite meeting spots — to sit beneath the blooms with Forest Therapy Guide Tamiko Suzuki. \nCome alone or bring someone you’ve been meaning to slow down with. The important thing is that you show up. \nSaturday\, April 11th\, 10:00 am\nVanier Park — meet in front of The Crab\n1100 Chestnut St\, Vancouver\, BC V6J 5E5\nGuide: Tamiko Suzuki\, Forest Therapy Guide \nFree to attend. No experience needed. Children welcome if they can sit quietly. Please leave dogs at home — we share this space with local wildlife. We sit rain or shine\, so dress for the weather. We close with tea and a poem. \n\n\n\n \n April 2025 \n \n \n \n\n \n April 2025 \n \n \n \n\n \n March 2026 \n \n \n \n\n \n April 2025

SUMMARY:April 2025 – Vanier Park
DESCRIPTION:Hanami in Japan refers to the practice of viewing flowers\, particularly cherry blossoms. During this time\, groups gather under cherry blossom trees to enjoy each other’s company and appreciate the beauty of the flowers. When the petals gently fall to the ground\, this phenomenon is poetically referred to as “snow.” \nVancouver is home to a wide variety of cherry trees\, and to celebrate the arrival of spring\, we will come together under the pink blossoms and experience the soft petals falling around us. We have scheduled this sit for the same weekend as Sakura Days\, so if you want more time amongst the blooms\, you can attend the festivities on the same day. \nDetails: \n\nSat.\, April 12th\, 2:00 pm.\nVanier Park\, 1100 Chestnut St\, Vancouver\, BC V6J 5E5. Meet in front of The Crab\nWe sit rain or shine\, so dress appropriately.\nIf you don’t want to sit on the ground\, consider bringing something to sit on\, such as a pad or tarp.\nBring a friend or come solo—the important thing is that you show up for yourself.
